Homeschooling takes on many forms. There are homeschoolers that use an eclectic style, those that unschool, those that use prepackaged curriculums and still others that rely on distance education to supplement hands-on instruction.
Home schooling has come a long way in the last few decades and new homeschoolers are bombarded with educational options. The newness of online classes and the learning curve many homeschooling parents have to go through in the beginning, can make online classes an overlooked resource. Online classes benefit homeschoolers in different ways based on how their homeschool is run.
When students get older, some subjects become too difficult for parents to teach. On the other hand, some students require help beyond what a parent can provide. This is where online classes can benefit both parents and students who home educate. Both schools and organizations provide opportunities to take classes online. Students can continue their traditional from of homeschooling but supplement with online classes for certain subjects. Some subjects that homeschoolers can consider for an online class are geometry, physics, algebra and government. Students can also enroll in online writing classes if they struggle with learning proper grammar, spelling and sentence structure.
A particularly helpful advantage of online classes for homeschoolers is that parents get a little backup when it comes to teaching their child. Most homeschoolers deal with uncertainty at some point, especially in the beginning. Having an outside resource can calm instructional fears parents may be feeling. Instructors vary in their methods and your child may click with an online class instructor in an area they have been struggling in at home. It also gives parents the option of discussing their child’s education with the online class instructor to assess strengths and weaknesses. Some online classes require a test before the student can enroll in the class. These tests, which are usually provided free of charge if the student is enrolling, is an easy way for parents to see if their home education program is on track and working well.
Among the most significant benefits of online classes for homeschoolers is that older students can self-direct their learning. This teaches responsibility and time management skills. It also frees up the parent to work with younger kids, run errands or spend time doing something around the house. With online classes, parents get a little bit more freedom from the rigors of homeschooling. Online classes also show colleges that the student can perform well not only in their home education subjects, but also in subjects provided by a school or organization. This may help the student when applying for college or college scholarships.
The prospect of earning transferable credits is another benefit of online classes for homeschoolers. Homeschoolers are required to maintain their own records and transcripts. With some online classes, the credit earned are put on an accredited transcript which makes them transferable if a student re-enter public school or goes to college.
Most homeschooling families prefer to be in charge of their home education program, while others enjoy the option of distance education for homeschooling.

Why let your children be taught in the home rather than send them to their local high school? Well, firstly, you do not have to awaken them at 7 every morning and bundle them off to high school with masses of instructions, and await anxiously till they return. Homeschooling grants you much more control over the influences which impact your child. The growth and development of your children is taken from the realm of the unknown where you, and only you may decide what that your child needs to learn. Modifying the curriculum to suit the needs as well as interests of your child is among the more obvious benefits of homeschooling.
Personal attention is another striking advantage in homeschooling, so for instance, if Lisa requires additional time to learn Math, then she may reduce the time for the English tuition. There’s no fixed hours of learning per topic meaning the child has the advantage of giving a higher amount of time to the subject that appears tough without any sort of stress. The measure of time required to learn each topic would depend upon the capabilities and interests of the child.
The homeschooling of the child becomes an extended family activity in which the parents get involved in each and every part of the learning process. Field trips and experiments become family affairs, therefore the child receives more time to spend with the parents in which the entire family partakes in games, tasks and projects. Family closeness quickly becomes the main event in this case and the child becomes free of any unfavorable peer pressure while rendering choices and decisions.
Competition is low when it comes to homeschooling because the child does not have to demonstrate their capability in vying with other children so their confidence stays untouched. Becuase parents possess a deep understanding of their child, they can plan the educational program to cater to their child’s interest. It’s also possible to intersperse difficult jobs with exciting activities therefore a hard hour with Algebra can be followed by a trip to a nearby museum. Parents may additionally design this curriculum to work with the learning style of the child as some children learn by reading, and others have to write, and still others need to see objects in action.
Homeschooling permits parents to exercise control over the moral and religious learning of the child. Parents possess the time and ability to integrate their ideals within their child’s curriculum. There’s no confusion within their children mind either because there’s no variation with what is being taught and what is being practiced.
Finally, an increasing number of parents are becoming unhappy with the school system and they firmly believe that the children are getting pushed way too hard or not enough. Other worrying issues pertaining to discipline and ethics also make the school system less welcome. Many object to the educational philosophy of putting children together entirely on grounds how old they are. A few parents actually have unpleasant recollections of their very own public school experience that motivates them to opt for homeschooling when it comes to their own children. Homeschooling is the best way to teach your child if you’ve adequate time, the capability as well as the interest to complete their education, since of course, nobody can understand or treasure your child any more than you are able too.

As a experienced curriculum director for private schools, I am finding that online education is as useful as conventional classroom instruction, while boosting the level of opportunity, flexibility, and convenience.
However it cannot be said that all online schools are created equal.
CRITERIA FOR PICKING AN ONLINE SCHOOL
When looking for an online schooling alternative for your child, take care that the schools you consider meet the following criteria:
1. The school is accredited and is a member of a nationally established agency
2. The school has “demo” classes that you can go over
3. A full scope and sequence of all study programs can be evaluated
4. All educational units meet national/state standards
5. The education provider is a “full service” school which also offers FREE substitutions of courses
6. They offer accredited transcripts that meet national/state requirements
7. Their accreditation standing can be verified
8. You can speak with an educational professional at the school, whether that’s an administrator or a guidance counselor
9. Your child must have licensed teachers assigned to each module.
Frequently we find new online schools appearing on Google or Yahoo. Some of these newly-arrived schools “piggy-back” on other online schools which offer a curriculum to potential young people, but they can do little for you in regards to college preparation and guidance counseling services.
ONE EASY TEST YOU CAN APPLY
If you are unable to reach a “real live” educational professional when you telephone the education provider, this may not be the school for you.
Full service private schools retain educational professionals on staff. They are able to offer you advice on curriculum choices so as to meet your child’s needs. A proficient curriculum director is able to insure that your child’s transcripts will meet your state requirements – as well as your college choice.
One of the most weighty elements in choosing an online school is the curriculum offered. A good online school offers college preparatory and advanced classes that are supported by certified teachers.
THE EDUCATION OF THE FUTURE, BUT…
Online education is an excellent option and it is the wave of the future but it isn’t for everyone. That’s why you should select an online school which offers FREE substitution with good old fashioned textbooks
Online education can be costly but when you pick an online school with a guarantee of textbook-aided instruction, it is the best home school choice on hand today.

Meet the Curriculum Director/Administrator.
This piece is based on a blog post written by Mrs Z, so let me tell you about her.
When she was providing homeschooling for her own children, Deborah became totally frustrated by the lack of acceptable teaching materials available so she started creating curriculum. Soon she was also tutoring children with special needs and designing curriculum packages for private schools and distance learning students.
With a BA in Theology and Education, she began teaching students with diverse kinds of learning challenges in private Christian schools in California, and then in Florida. With that wealth of educational experience, Mrs Z went on to become the head teacher and curriculum director for three private schools.
Having witnessed first hand the great need for quality educational materials for the private schools, she proceeded to write curriculum for students with reading difficulties – and so it was that the ministry of the Christian Educators Company began.
