“Sundridge Children’s Centre Mission Statement Sept 2008″

When your child starts at Sunshine Day Nursery an individual induction procedure will be followed to suit your personal needs. This procedure will have been discussed previously with staff and will enable parents/carers to assist their child when settling in and will enable strong home/nursery links to be fostered.

Once your child is settled initial observations will be made allowing staff to determine areas of strength and possible lines of development. As they settle into the Nursery children will be assigned to a group and a key worker. The group will be a small group of children, within which, we feel your child will thrive. The key worker will be an adult within our setting who we feel your child has already formed a positive relationship with. You will be informed of your child’s key worker and this staff member will become responsible for many elements of your child’s care e.g. planning, observations, assessments etc.

By promoting personal choice and autonomy within the environment the children are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and actions. Where possible the curriculum will be extended and enriched by providing the children opportunities to participate in educational visits and be inviting visitors into the Sunshine Day Nursery. Staff regularly assess the children and work as a team to plan how to move the learning and development of the children forward. The Children’s Centre teacher works in close collaboration with all YMCA nursery staff of the planning, delivery and evaluation of the curriculum.
